Memory foam has thousands of devotees. How about you? If you want bespoke support, and like a firmer, less bouncy bed then come on in.
Memory foam softens with body heat, responding to contours it supports your body whilst you sleep. It's ideal for helping with correct spinal alignment, and is a sworn favourite of many chronic pain sufferers.
Due to its denser construction, memory foam feels warmer than sprung beds. If this extra warmth doesn't sound appealing, consider pairing up your memory foam mattress with a specialist cooling topper or protector, for a fresher night's sleep.

How do memory foam mattresses work?

Memory foam is made with a dense foam which softens with body heat and pressure, responding to your body contours to support your body whilst you sleep. Due to its denser construction, memory foam feels warmer than sprung beds. If this extra warmth doesn't sound appealing, consider pairing up your memory foam mattress with a specialist cooling topper or protector, for a fresher night's sleep.

Are memory foam mattresses good for your back?

Memory foam mattresses support an ideal spinal alignment because of the way they respond to your body’s position as you sleep. By allowing the spine to rest in a neutral position, the muscles around your spine can rest which helps reduce aches and pains. Memory foam mattresses allow your body to ‘sink’ into the mattress. This means they help relieve pressure on joints, something that those with joint pain appreciate.

How do you clean a memory foam mattress?

Care for your memory foam mattress by using a mattress protector under the sheets, and you’ll prolong its life and find it needs fewer cleans. If a spill or stain has made it through to your memory foam mattress, first dab away any liquid. Then, using an upholstery shampoo, warm water and sponge, work at the stain to remove as much as you can. Wait until your mattress is completely dry before making it up again. Some memory foam mattresses have a removable cover, in which case you may be able to remove and launder it in your washing machine before replacing it on your mattress when completely dry. Memory Foam Mattresses FAQs

Does a memory foam mattress help with back pain?

A memory foam mattress can help with back pain by allowing your body to rest in a healthier position. If you sleep in a position that puts pressure on your spine, you may experience back pain - either when you're sleeping or when you get up in the morning. If used with an appropriate pillow, a full memory foam mattress will allow your spine to rest in a 'neutral' position. This, turn, helps your muscles relax which can help ease or prevent back pain. It's important to remember that back pain can have a range of causes. We'd recommend you get medical advice to rule out any health problems that need professional attention.

Will a memory foam mattress keep me cool?

Memory foam mattresses work very differently to traditional sprung mattresses. They adapt to your body shape and sleeping position in response to pressure and your body's warmth. This is what makes them so adaptable and supportive. This, combined with the fact that memory foam is a particularly dense material that reduces air circulation, means some people get hot when sleeping on a memory foam mattress. There are several ways to prevent overheating when sleeping on a full memory foam mattress. These include choosing a memory foam mattress that's designed with a specialist cooling layer. You can also use a cooling topper on your mattress. Choosing natural fibres for your bedding and nightclothes will also help you feel cooler as you sleep.

Do I need a firm memory foam mattress or a soft memory foam mattress?

Memory foam mattresses aren't typically available in a wide range of firmnesses. That's because the memory foam itself is so adaptive and softens in response to your body's temperature and weight. Because a full memory foam mattress does not contain springs, it will feel less bouncy than a traditional sprung mattress. This means it may feel like a firm memory foam mattress. However, even a 'firm' memory foam mattress will be soft enough to adapt to your sleeping position. If you prefer a mattress which feels softer, you may prefer a hybrid memory foam mattress. These contain memory foam and pocket springs to give you the softer 'bounce' you prefer from your bed.
