Feather & Down Duvets FAQs

How long does a feather duvet last?

All of our feather and down duvets are guaranteed for at least three years, while some of our more premium down and feather duvets are guaranteed for 15 years. However, this is only a guideline – if cared for well, you can expect your down and feather duvet to last for a very long time. To prolong the life of your down and feather duvet, we’d recommend you take the following steps:

  • Use a duvet protector and duvet cover to keep your duvet clean and dry.
  • Pull back the covers when you’ve woken up to allow your duvet to breathe and any moisture to escape.
  • Shake out your duvet every day. This will redistribute the fillings and fluff up the feather and down clusters.
  • Keep your duvet clean by carefully washing it and thoroughly drying it. An annual or twice-yearly wash is perfect.

Can you wash a feather duvet?

Yes, you can wash a feather duvet, but this is something that we’d recommend you do in a professional capacity washing machine to allow enough room for the duvet to circulate and for optimum cleaning. Drying your feather and down duvet is as important as washing it. Without proper drying, the fill can clump together and lose their insulative properties. It can take several hours of tumble drying to get a down and feather duvet completely dry. Find out more about caring for a down and feather duvet in our duvet care guide.

Which is best, goose or duck feather duvets?

Not sure whether to choose a goose or duck feather duvet? Here’s some information to help you decide…

Most duck feather and down fill duvets are springy, plump and cosy. They tend to be heavier, making them perfect for people who love the feeling of being tucked-up tightly in bed. Our best-selling duck feather and down duvet is a great example.

Eider down duvets are made with down from the Eider duck and are widely believed to be the best feather and down duvets. This is because of the incredibly light and lofty down which has superior insulating properties. An Eiderdown duvet is a considerable investment but will last you for many, many nights of blissful sleep.

If you long for a light and airy duvet but don’t have the budget for Eider down, then a goose down and feather duvet is for you. They are light and airy while also being very cosy thanks to the way the goose down traps warm air.

With a variety of goose down options to choose from, selecting can be tricky, but a strong customer favourite is our 100% Canadian goose down duvet, which is filled with nothing but blissfully insulative Canadian Goose down, wrapped up in a 400 thread count cotton case.

Are feather duvets bad for allergies?

Although some people are sensitive to the down and feather fillings in duvets, we use feather and down that is classified as super clean, meaning it is suitable for most allergy sufferers. It’s especially important for allergy sufferers to choose the right duvet protectors. Doing this will help keep your down and feather duvet fill clean and dry, preventing the build-up of allergens such as dust-mites, pollen and bacteria.

Are feather duvets cruel?
