How high should a pillow be?

The height of your pillow depends on your sleeping position and your physical frame. Back sleepers and front sleepers will sleep best on a flatter pillow while side sleepers will sleep more comfortably on a side pillow. The smaller you are, the flatter your pillow should be, and vice-versa. You should be aiming for a pillow that allows your head and neck to rest in line with your spine. If you switch between your front and your back, use two soft support pillows so that you can use them both when you're on your back and discard one when you're on your front! How long do pillows last?

A pillow will last for between one to five years depending on how it is made, what it is made with and how it is treated. After this time, the filling will flatten and will start to harbour unpleasant bugs and allergens which may affect your health. Synthetic pillows have the shortest life, while down-filled pillows last the longest. You can make your pillow last for longer by using a pillow protector and washing it occasionally.
