Egyptian cotton bedding is available in a range of thread count options. There's no 'ideal' thread count for Egyptian cotton sheets, although many people believe that a higher thread count, such as 600 thread count bedding is preferable. What really matters is what you prefer and how you want to care for your Egyptian cotton bed sheets. A lower thread count is lighter which means it's quicker to dry and easier to iron. Higher thread count bedsheets have a richer hand feel and are typically smoother to the touch. However, because there are more threads per inch, they take longer to dry which can be a problem if you rely on drying your bed linen inside on an airer. High thread count bed linen also needs more attention when ironing - the creases can be difficult to remove without a lot of steam.
Egyptian cotton bed sheets can support a healthy lifestyle but won't make you healthier. They are breathable, which means you'll sleep more comfortably than might be the case if you were using bedlinen made with synthetic fibres. Egyptian cotton bedding can be washed at high temperatures, although we recommend washing at 30 degrees. This allows you to keep your bedding clean and healthy, supporting healthy skin and preventing allergens from building up. Finally, Egyptian cotton sheets feel very soft and smooth, making them a good choice for people who are sensitive to rough textures. Ultimately, Egyptian cotton bed sheets will support a healthy night's sleep - one of the best ways of protecting your health.
Thread count refers to how many 'threads' there are in a square inch of fabric. This includes both horizontal and vertical threads. The more threads in an inch, the more tightly a fabric is woven. Therefore, 600 thread count bedding is bed linen with 600 'threads' per square inch. Generally, the higher the thread count, the smoother the fabric. Thread count is often used as a byword for quality, but this isn't always the case, as low-quality cotton could be woven into a 600-thread count fabric, and the resulting fabric would be of a lower quality than one made with higher quality cotton woven into a lower thread count weave. All 600 thread count Egyptian Cotton bedding at Soak&Sleep is made to the highest standard, using certified Egyptian Cotton for guaranteed quality.
Using fabric softener on your Egyptian Cotton bed sheets is a personal choice. If your bed linen is made with certified Egyptian Cotton, it will be exceptionally smooth thanks to the extra-long fibres that Egyptian Cotton is famed for. Therefore, fabric softener is not necessary to create a smoother, softer feeling bed linen. Long-term fabric softener use can result in a waxy coating on your Egyptian Cotton bed linen which can be difficult to remove. If you're concerned about wrinkles and creases on your luxury Egyptian Cotton bedding, we'd suggest ironing them while they're slightly damp for a pristine finish.
