Pure cotton

Made with pure cotton, this bedspread is breathable helping you sleep more comfortably for a more restful night. It creates a wonderfully light layer so you can move easily during the night making for a more peaceful night's sleep.

Authentically Portuguese

This timeless bedspread has been woven for us in the Guimaraes region in Portugal by a family-run manufacturer. Guimaraes is famed for its rich history in Portuguese textile production.

Specialist techniques

Waffle weaves are created by using varying lengths of yarn when weaving. When the fabric is removed from the loom, the shorter lengths of yarn that were stretched during the weaving process contract, creating the waffle texture we love so much. Waffle weaves are surprisingly cosy because of the way the textured weave traps air making them warmer than a regular flat-woven throw.

Easy care

This lightweight throw is easy to keep clean and can be machine-washed."

Pull back the covers

Keep things healthy by pulling back your bedspread, together with your duvet or sheet, to air your bed while you're getting ready for the day. This helps excess moisture to evaporate so your bed stays fresher and cleaner.

Wash regularly

Keep things clean and fresh by washing your bedspread. Use it in addition to a duvet or flat sheet and you should find that a wash every couple of months is enough. You can wash this bedspread at 40°C, although we'd recommend you wash it at 30°C for a greener way to stay clean. Use a large capacity machine or take your bedspread to be professionally cleaned. This bedspread can be professionally dry-cleaned.

Dry flat

Waffle weaves don't like to be stretched, and when washed, the weight of the water will stretch out your bedspread. So dry it flat and it will stay looking lovely for longer. You can gently reshape this bedspread while damp if you need to. Drying flat isn't only good for your bedspread, it's good for our planet too. You can, however, dry this bedspread in a tumble drier on a low heat if you prefer.

Iron if you like

Keep the textured weave at its best and avoid using an iron on this beautiful bedspread. If you prefer to iron it, use a cool iron with no pressure, allowing the steam to do the hard work instead.

Check your detergent

Always use the best detergent for the product you are washing. As this bedspread is white, we recommend you use a powdered detergent.

Extra careful

Never use biological detergent, bleaches, stain removers or optical brighteners as they will damage the fabric and colour over time. It's not just detergents that can affect the fabric on your bedspread; some creams, sun creams and face washes contain chemicals that will bleach your bedspread, such as benzoyl peroxide. Make up and bronzers can also stain your bedspread; having a shower before bed to remove skin products will help your bedspread stay looking good for longer.

Sublimely soft cotton and a timeless waffle weave.

Lightweight and surprisingly cosy, this waffle bedspread is a stylish extra layer for any bed. It's especially suited to autumn nights when you're not ready for a thick duvet but want to add some extra warmth to your bed. This bedspread is also fantastic as a summertime bedcover - just pair with a flat sheet for a cooler night's sleep.

FAQS

Waffle Cotton Bedspreads

What is a waffle weave bedspread, and how is it made?

A waffle weave is created using varying lengths of yarn during the weaving process. When the fabric is removed from the loom, the shorter yarns contract to create its distinctive textured surface. The waffle structure also traps air within the weave, helping make it cosy while remaining lightweight.

When is a bedspread most useful?

A waffle bedspread is a wonderfully versatile layer. In autumn and spring, it adds a cosy extra layer of warmth when a thick duvet feels too much. In summer, it works beautifully as a bed cover paired with just a flat sheet for a cooler, lighter night's sleep. It is the kind of piece you will reach for throughout the year.

What is this bedspread made from, and is it breathable?

This bedspread is made from 100% pure cotton. Its breathable, lightweight construction helps create a comfortable extra layer on your bed. It is also Oeko-Tex certified.

Where are these bedspreads made?

These bedspreads are woven for us in the Guimaraes region of Portugal by a family-run manufacturer with a rich tradition of textile production. Guimaraes has a long and proud history at the heart of Portuguese weaving, and we are proud to work with producers who share our commitment to quality and craft.

How do I care for a waffle bedspread?

Wash your bedspread at 30 degrees, using a large-capacity machine or taking it for a professional wash. Crucially, dry it flat rather than hanging it, as the weight of water when wet can stretch the weave out of shape. If you prefer to tumble dry, use a low heat setting. Avoid ironing, or if you must, use a cool iron with steam and no pressure.
