FAQS

Duck Feather & Down Duvet

Which is better duck or goose feather duvet?

There are two types of feather duvet - duck feather duvets and goose feather duvets. Neither is better than the other - if sourced ethically, they both provide excellent quality, breathable duvets. Duck feather and down duvets are typicallly puffy, full and pleasingly weighty. This makes them perfect for people who love feeling extra snug and tucked-up in bed. In comparison to a duck and feather down duvet, goose feather and down duvets are light and lofty. Goose down is famously insulative - the lightweight of down means you will experience a wonderfully warm night's sleep with minimal extra weight.

How often should you change a feather duvet?

Your feather duvet will last you for many years if you care for it well. All Soak&Sleep feather duvets are guaranteed for at least five years, however, if you air it regularly, use a duvet protector and wash (and dry) it with care and your feather duvet is likely to outlast its guarantee. Whether it's a duck feather duvet or synthetic, use your judgement to decide when it's time to change your duvet. Reasons to change your duvet include unpleasant odours you can't remove with washing, a clumped filling that's uncomfortable to sleep under and a ripped or damaged case that is leaking the fill.

What are the benefits of duck down duvets?

A duck down duvet is light, fluffy, insulative and breathable, making it warm with very little weight. Duck down is often more affordable than goose down, although not always - Eider down duvets are considered the world's best duck down duvets. Duvets filled with pure duck down are less common than duvets filled with a combination of feather and down. Because duck feathers are smaller and softer than goose feathers this makes them more suitable for combining with down. When combined into a duck feather and down duvet, you get a weightier duvet that's snug, puffy and breathable - and often at a great value price.

Is duck feather good for hot sleepers?

If you're wondering about how warm a duck feather duvet is, the important thing to remember is that the tog rating will dictate how warm your duvet is. So, if you choose a lighter tog duck feather duvet - such as 3 tog - this may be more comfortable than a 13.5 tog duck feather duvet. A duck feather and down duvet has a natural fill which means it is breathable. Choosing a breathable duvet is important for hot sleepers as it allows the moisture that builds up as you sleep to escape into your bedroom instead of staying within your bed.
