Vintage is back! For the fastest way to a stylish bed, just throw on a king size bedspread.
A king size bedspread and king size bed throws are guaranteed to boost the ambience in any room, creating a feature bed that’s comfy, low-maintenance, and heartwarmingly homely. Add a pile of random cushions (we’ve got a lovely selection!) and your bed looks like a spread from Country Living!
King size bedspreads are also extremely useful as seasons change. Just add or subtract throws and you’ll be as cool or cosy as you like.
Our bedding expert says: “Our king size bedspreads and king size bed throws measure 270 x 260cm: there’s plenty of room for a king size mattress (150cm x 200cm) and it fits snugly on a superking too (180cm x 200cm). If you want a bedspread that’s even bigger, we do Emperor size ones too. These measure a whopping 300cm x 270cm.”
King Size Bedspreads, Blankets & Throws FAQs
How big is a king size bedspread?
Unlike many other types of bedding, there isn't a standard size for a king size bedspread. That's because bedspreads aren't constrained by other types of bedding - they don't need to fit onto a duvet or pillowcases. A king size bedspread will be wide enough to fully cover a king size mattress, with enough fabric to hang over the size and cover the sides of the mattress. Some people like a bedspread that goes all the way to the floor, while others prefer their bedspread to stop midway. Whether or not your king size bedspread touches the floor depends on the height of your mattress and bedframe. If you want your king size bedspread to touch the floor, we'd recommend you measure the total height of your bed and mattress, double this and add it to the width of your mattress (150cm for a king size bed). This will provide you with the minimum width you need to ensure your bedspread reaches the floor.
Will a king size bedspread fit a queen bed?
In the UK, a queen bed is the same as a small double bed and measures 120cm x 190cm. This means that a queen bed is 30cm narrower than a king size bed. For this reason, a king size bedspread will fit a queen bed with ease. Some people may find that a king size bedspread is too wide for a queen bed; the extra width may become a nuisance and look untidy, especially if your bedroom is on the small side. However, choosing to use king size bedspread for your queen bed can make a real statement - if carefully judged, the extra fabric can look sumptuous and welcoming, especially if you've chosen a bedspread in a luxurious fabric such as velvet or silk.
What's the difference between a king size bedspread and a king size blanket?
A king size bedspread and a king size blanket may be used in very similar ways, but they are different things. A bedspread - whether king size or not - is typically quilted and designed to cover the entire bed. It can be used to add extra warmth to a duvet, or with just a flatsheet as a lighter covering. A blanket is normally knitted or woven and is used in addition to a duvet, adding extra warmth as needed. It's quite common to use more than one blanket at a time. Blankets tend to be smaller than bedspreads. A king size blanket will be large enough to cover someone lying down, but not big enough to cover an entire king size bed.
