French Linen Flat Sheets FAQs

Is linen bedding worth it?

French linen bedding feels very different to cotton bedding. The strands of linen are more robust and softer, and behave differently to cotton. Linen feels heavier than cotton and has a distinctive drape, meaning it feels denser and richer than many types of cotton. One of the biggest benefits of linen is the way it helps you regulate your temperature as you sleep. Because it can hold up to 20% of its weight in moisture without feeling damp, it helps wick away moisture, making it perfect for hot summer nights and people who overheat at night. Although luxury linen bedding is more expensive than some other types of bedding, it is very durable and gets softer with every wash.

Are linen sheets cooler than cotton?

Linen sheets have a very different feel to cotton. They are softer and more drapey and help you regulate your sleeping temperature. This means that if you feel hot, linen bedlinen will help you feel cooler, while if you feel cold, linen will help you to warm you up. This means that linen bedsheets are a perfect choice to use all year round. French linen bedding is a popular choice for people who struggle to regulate their body temperature as it can help them to sleep more comfortably. You can learn more about the benefits of linen bedding sets in our blog.

How do I clean and dry linen bedding?

Linen bedding can be washed and dried in a very similar way to cotton bedding. Wash it in your washing machine, using the most appropriate detergent for your linen bed set. If your pure linen bedding is white, we'd recommend you use a powder detergent. If it is coloured, use a liquid detergent formulated for coloured fabrics. Never use fabric bleach with linen bedding sets as this can damage the fibres. It takes longer to dry linen bedding than cotton because of the way the linen holds onto more moisture. While you can tumble dry linen sheets, we'd recommend you dry it on a washing line in the fresh air for that unbeatable 'fresh bed' feeling.

Does linen wrinkle more than cotton?

One of the most charming thing about luxury linen bedding is the way it wrinkles, creating a laidback yet indulgent bedroom look. So yes, your linen bedsheets will wrinkle more than cotton. If prefer your bed to have crisp, pristine bedsheets, French Linen sheets aren't for you - take a look at our Egyptian Cotton range instead. You can iron French Linen bedding - it will look beautifully smooth and drapey, especially if you iron it while slightly damp. However, as soon as you sleep on it, the wrinkles will return. Our advice? Embrace the easy elegance of French linen sheets, and give your iron the day off.
