A chic, timeless way to update any bedroom.

Looking for a way to add subtle interest to a bedroom? This subtly textured Matelassé bedspread is lightweight, breathable and very adaptable, making it perfect for year-round use.

Features & Facts

  • Pure cotton
This bedspread is made with pure cotton for a wonderfully light and breathable layer. It allows you to move easily as you sleep for a more restful night.

  • Rich heritage
Traditional Matelassé bedspreads were developed in Marseilles in the 18th century - 'matelasser' is the French verb 'to quilt'. The technique began as a quilting method to create beautiful motifs when stitching fabrics together. In the late 1740s, the technique was reinvented on a loom by weaving the cloth, making production much more affordable. Today, Matelassé bedspreads are known for their intricate patterns and raised weave; a timeless staple for any bedroom.

  • Specialist techniques
This raised texture of this elegant matelassé bedspread is created by weaving multiple yarns together, creating a complicated woven structure around thicker yarns that add height and dimension to the motif. A special post-weave wash raises the pattern even more for the distinctive quilted look that Matelassé is known for.

  • Easy care
This lightweight bedspread is easy to keep clean and can be machine-washed.

Look & Feel

  • A lighter layer

This bedspread is ideal as a lightweight 400gsm layer, especially when pairing with just a flat sheet in the balmy summer months or as an extra layer to use when the weather's cooler. It has a thick, textured flat profile.

  • Soft touch

The woven cotton is even softer to the touch thanks to the stonewash finish - just the thing for snuggling under as you drift off to sleep.

  • Textural treat

The raised abstract pattern on this bed linen reminds us of pebbles on a beach and will add subtle interest to a bedroom.

  • Finishing touch

We've finished these generously sized bedspreads with neat mitred corners and double stitched hems.

Care

  • 1
    Pull back the covers
Keep things healthy by pulling back your bedspread, together with your duvet or sheet, to air your bed while you're getting ready for the day. This helps excess moisture to evaporate so your bed stays fresher and cleaner.
  • 2
    Wash regularly
Keep things clean and fresh by washing your bedspread. Use it in addition to a duvet or flat sheet and you should find that a wash every couple of months is enough. You can wash this bedspread at 40°C, although we'd recommend you wash it at 30°C for a greener way to stay clean. Use a large capacity machine or take your bedspread to be professionally cleaned. This bedspread can be professionally dry-cleaned.
  • 3
    Dry flat
Matelassé doesn't like to be stretched, and when washed, the weight of the water will stretch out your bedspread. So dry it flat and it will stay looking lovely for longer. You can gently reshape this bedspread while damp if you need to. Drying flat isn't only good for your bedspread, it's good for our planet too. You can however dry this bedspread in a tumble drier on a low heat if you prefer.
  • 4
    Iron if you like
Keep the textured weave at its best and avoid using an iron on this beautiful bedspread. If you prefer to iron it, use a cool iron with no pressure, allowing the steam to do the hard work instead.
  • 5
    Check your detergent
Always use the best detergent for the product you are washing. As this bedspread is white, we recommend you use a powdered detergent.
  • 6
    Extra careful
Never use biological detergent, bleaches, stain removers or optical brighteners as they will damage the fabric and colour over time. It's not just detergents that can affect the fabric on your bedspread; some creams, sun creams and facewashes contain chemicals that will bleach your bedspread, such as benzoyl peroxide. Make up and bronzers can also stain your bedspread; having a shower before bed to remove skin products will help your bedspread stay looking good for longer.
