What size is a king size mattress?

Our king size mattresses are the standard UK sizes. They measure 150cm x 200cm (5ft 0" x 6ft 6") and are the same size as our king size toppers, king size mattress protectors and king size fitted sheets. If you have a king size mattress but want a little extra room for your duvet, size up and go for a superking duvet. Want to know more about mattress sizes? Visit our size guide.

Which mattress is best for back pain?

Choosing the best mattress for back pain depends on your sleeping position. That’s because the way we sleep puts pressure on our bodies which can aggravate the joints and spine. If you sleep on your back or stomach, you’ll find a firm mattress supports your spine in a neutral position to help alleviate back pain. If you sleep on your side, a medium firmness mattress will be better thanks to the way the mattress lets your hips and shoulders sink into the mattress. This will help your spine rest in a more neutral position. You may also find using specialist pillows that help align your hips and knees will reduce pressure on your back. Some people find that memory foam mattresses help their back pain, others prefer pocket sprung mattresses.

King size mattresses are big, bold and beautiful at Soak&Sleep!

Every mattress has been through a rigorous commissioning process. We make sure it's the very best it can be for its price range. Because everyone has a budget.

First, a few choices to explain. Pocket springs make better mattresses because the springs are individually cased, giving you a mattress that dips in exactly the right places - and springs back into shape when you get up. Open springs are firmer and more supportive but less tailored. You can choose from natural upholstery options - like wool and cashmere - or memory foam, which is great for people with back problems. Our bedding expert says: "Our king size mattresses are the standard UK sizes. They measure 150cm x 200cm (5ft 0" x 6ft 6"). If you have a king size mattress but want a little extra wriggle room from your duvet or you need to wage a war against a duvet hogger, size up and go for a superking duvet."

What's the difference between a king size and queen size mattress?

A king size mattress measures 150cm x 200cm, while a queen size mattress in the UK measures 120cm x 190cm, making it slightly smaller than a standard double mattress. A king size mattress is 30cm wider than a queen size mattress and 10cm longer - this extra space can make a lot of difference to two people sharing a bed. A king size mattress is a good choice for two people sharing a bed, so long as there is enough space in your bedroom. You should allow at least 30cm at each side of your bed and 60cm between the foot of your bed and the wall or furniture so you can move around your bed comfortably and safely. If you do not have enough space for a king mattress and bed, a double bed (135cm x 190cm) will give you more space than a queen size bed.

What king mattress is better for my bed - pocket spring or memory foam mattress?

Choosing the right king mattress for your king size bed is a matter of preference. It doesn't matter whether you place a king size pocket spring mattress on your bed or you choose a king size memory foam mattress. A pocket spring mattress will be more supportive and can be helpful for people who overheat at night. In comparison, a memory foam mattress is more adaptable and can be helpful for people who suffer with aching joints. It is important to choose the correct size mattress for your bed. This means choosing a king size mattress for a king size bed, and not settling for the wrong size. Not only does the wrong size mattress affect your comfort and your bedroom's appearance, but it can also damage your mattress.
