Topper Care Guide FAQs
How often should you change a mattress topper?
Our toppers are built to last and will give you many nights of blissful sleep with the right aftercare. Make sure you follow the care instructions when washing and drying your topper and shake out and rotate your topper when you change your bed linen. We recommend you use a mattress protector to preserve the life of your topper.
How to clean a mattress topper
Before cleaning your topper, always check the care label on the product for clarity on washing temperatures and the suitability of use of bleach, tumble drying and dry cleaning. Pay particular care to the suitability of your topper to washing and/or dry cleaning. Given the size and depth of fill of toppers, we recommend using a professional laundering service at your local dry cleaner. Their large capacity washing machines and dryers are best suited to the size of this product. To keep your topper in tip-top condition, we would recommend washing every 6 months. Always store toppers freshly cleaned in a breathable bag. If you have purchased from the Memory Foam range, wash the casing when necessary following the care label.
What should I do if my mattress topper filling starts clumping together?
If your topper contains a feather and down fill or a loose synthetic fibre fill, give it a good shake and rotate it once a week. It is normal for the topper fill to form around your body and this will give the filling a chance to redistribute throughout the topper and help its recovery.
How do I care for my mattress topper?
Keep your topper at its best with five easy steps:
-
Use a mattress protector on top of your topper. A protector is much easier to clean than a topper and will keep your bed and topper fresh and clean in between washes. We recommend washing your topper a minimum of every 6 months.
-
Shake your topper out regularly to spread out and plump up the fill. We recommend doing this every week, an easy way to remember is to combine it with your linen change.
-
Rotate your topper once a week so it wears evenly.
-
Wash it regularly (once a season is perfect) with a suitable detergent in an appropriately sized washing machine, and dry it thoroughly in a tumble dryer to prevent clumping. We'd recommend you send them off for a professional clean for best results.
-
Pull back the covers every day allowing your bed to air, letting the fibres breathe and moisture evaporate.
How can I protect my mattress topper from spills and stains?
Always use a mattress protector on top of your topper. It's far easier to wash a protector after accidental spills or stains than it is a bulky topper. Washing your protector frequently helps to maintain a clean and fresh topper and buying a second protector allows you to rotate with the weekly wash.
Can you wash a mattress topper?
Can you put a mattress topper in the washing machine? Our microfibre, hollowfibre, wool and feather & down toppers can all be machine washed, but we'd recommend you send them off for a professional clean for best results.
How to clean a memory foam mattress topper
You can machine wash the cover of a memory foam topper. However you wash your topper, make sure it's tumble-dried until bone dry to prevent the filling from clumping.
