How big is a king size pillow?

A king size pillow (we call them super king pillows) are 50cm x 90cm. That’s 15cm wider than a standard pillow. Super king pillows are ideal for making larger beds look more inviting. Standard pillows can look as if they’re a bit ‘lost’ in the space at the top of a larger bed, whereas super king pillows fit perfectly. Find out more about the different size pillows we sell in our pillow size guide.

How much bigger should a pillowcase be than the pillow?

If you have large pillows, you might be wondering what size pillowcase to choose. Fortunately, that’s an easy decision – we sell pillowcases in sizes that match the pillow sizes we sell. That means a super king pillow would need a super king size pillowcase. We wouldn’t recommend you try to squeeze a super king pillow into a standard pillowcase. The filling will get compressed and may become uncomfortable. Find out more about choosing the right pillow in our pillow buying guide.

Super King Size & Large Pillows FAQs

What size pillows for a king bed?

A king size bed will look best if you invest in super king pillows, also known as king size pillows. Superking pillows measure 50cm x 90cm which is 15cm wider than a standard pillow.

Super king pillows are a brilliant way of making larger beds look more inviting because standard pillows can often look as if they’re a bit ‘lost’ in the space at the top of a larger bed. In contrast, super king size pillows fit perfectly, creating a bedroom that looks inviting and stylish. Find out more about the different size pillows we sell in our pillow size guide.

Do king pillows fit in standard pillowcases?

If you're treating yourself to some large pillows, you might be wondering what size pillowcase to choose. Because king size pillows (or as they're sometimes called, super king pillows) are 15cm wider than regular pillows, you will need a larger pillowcase. We wouldn’t recommend you try to squeeze a super king pillow into a standard pillowcase as this will result in the filling becoming compressed which may be uncomfortable.

We sell pillowcases in sizes that match the pillow sizes we sell and do so across a wide range of bedding styles. Find out more about choosing the right pillow in our pillow buying guide.

How do you know if a pillow is too high?

Choosing a pillow that's the perfect height can feel difficult. Essentially, your pillow should support your head and neck so they are aligned with your spine. Your head shouldn't be above - or beneath - your spine level. Front sleepers need a pillow that is very soft and almost flat. Side sleepers need a pillow to fill the gap between head and the mattress. Those with broader shoulders need a deeper pillow or can use more than one pillow. Back sleepers need a pillow that lifts the head slightly, preventing it from rolling back. Find out more about different sleeping positions in our blog.

How do you arrange pillows on a bed to sleep?

The first place to arrange your pillows is under your head. Make sure your pillows support your head and neck correctly - they should be aligned with your spine - not lifted above or dropping below. This might mean you need two pillows, especially if you have broad shoulders or if your pillows are very soft.

If you sleep on your back, try placing a soft pillow behind your knees to ease the pressure on your lower spine. If you sleep on your side, try resting your upper leg on a soft pillow to keep your body well aligned and take the pressure off your hips and pelvis.
