What is a bed sheet?
A bed sheet is a large piece of fabric that you use to dress and protect your bed and cover yourself with as you sleep. There are two types of bed sheet – fitted sheets and flat sheets.
- Fitted bed sheets are sheets with elasticated edges. These are used on top of the mattress to provide a comfortable sleeping surface that also helps protect your mattress.
- Flat bed sheets are sheets without elasticated edges. These can also be used to help protect your mattress and provide a more comfortable sleeping surface. However, you can also sleep underneath a flat sheet – either using it underneath a duvet or blanket, or on its own.
